Southfields Library leaflets for October below with many inspiring classes & opportunities for children & adults as always. Take a look! These leaflets will also be posted on the SGCARA website under ‘Local Events’.
Lots of activities for children over half-term week especially. Some need BOOKING in advance.

ARTISTS OPEN HOUSE’
3rd/4th and 10th/11th October

This wonderful annual event starts today! Most households will have received the leaflet with all the Southfields artists included.
Artists featured from SGCA are: Tony Gant (Pottery)14 Combemartin Rd,
Elzbieta Smolenska (photographs, prints & artefacts) 1 Arcadian Place,
& a collective of 4 artists (paintings, jewellery & ceramics) 164a Sutherland Grove.
WORLD HEARTBEAT ACADEMY – 10th October 1.30-3.30pm
‘TRY AN INSTRUMENT’
World Heart Beat Academy was started by clarinettist & inspiring teacher Sahana Gero. (She taught for years at St Michaels & also Saint Cecilia’s Schools). Lessons take place at their 58 Kimber Rd SW18 4PP centre.
‘Try an Instrument’ day is coming up soon. The organisers say:
‘We’re hosting a FREE try an instrument day for Music For All’s ‘Learn to Play’ weekend & Keep Music Alive’s Kids Music Day, at World Heart Beat’s Kimber Road Academy.
Come along and try out an instrument, speak to our young musicians & get to know the World Heart Beat community.’

Sahana is brilliant at getting funding & Instrument lessons were/are on offer FREE to disadvantaged children. World Heart Beat now also have a prestigious centre in Embassy Gardens. Some of those same children helped by World Beat Academy are now established performers in all genres & perform at Embassy Gardens concerts.
WANDSWORTH PRISON IMPROVEMENT (WPIC) CAMPAIGN

Wandsworth Prison isn’t so far away from SGCA & residents may be interested in discovering aspects of how it is run, how WPIC is working to encourage opportunities for prisoner-rehabilitation, rather than re-offending & ending up back to prison etc.

‘PEOPLE’S EMERGENCY BRIEFING’ local screening 22nd October
‘People’s Emergency Briefing’ – ‘A new film from the National Emergency Briefing – a public information initiative to ensure the UK is fully briefed on the climate & nature crisis’.
Anyone interested in the climate crisis is welcome to attend.
Those who attended the screenings in June/July in St Barnabas Church or at the URC church in Wimbledon – both with Q&A sessions afterwards, found the film very informative. Hard-hitting but with some possibility of optimism.

WIMBLEDON INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL (WIMF) Nov 2026
Volunteers wanted please… also 2 paid opportunities
The Wimbledon International Music Festival is looking for new volunteers to join its existing team.
Volunteers are essential to the success of the festival & you can participate in many ways: from building the stage to working on the bar & ushering the audience, or helping to spread the word about the festival.
As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to enjoy some wonderful music, receive invitations to team dos, meet lovely, like-minded people & be part of a great team.
